Aisling OLoughlin Diary 1
So Im a Flora Womens Mini Marathon virgin 2010 will be my first time and I cant wait! Im certainly not a fitness junkie and running wouldnt really be my thing but when Flora approached me to join Team Flora this year, I thought why not plus Im always keen on any opportunity to raise money for charity
Im not into long gym sessions; I prefer to do around 20 minutes of movement every day. Ultimately I have no desire to be perfectly toned. I actually dont mind a bit of softness, its feminine. Now that Ive signed up for the 10k run Ill do a lap of Corkagh Park in Clondalkin around twice a week. Its a beautiful, huge park on the edge of Dublin, a real gem.
In terms of diet, Ive learned that the only way to stay somewhat trim is to enjoy your food, to really, really enjoy your food. Guilt is the enemy. Im less neurotic about food now than I was in my twenties and I actually have a better figure as a result. Getting older isnt so bad after all! Im a healthy eater but I also like coffee and dessert and sweets. Everything in moderation, thats my motto!
On race day Im hoping to run most of the 10k but Im not going to put too much pressure on myself. Ive heard the atmosphere on the day is super so Ill be concentrating on soaking that up and making it across the finish line with a smile on my face!
